DESOPADEC IN PURSUIT OF JOB CREATION AND EMPOWERMENT

In pursuit of creating jobs for the teeming youths of Delta State and the entire populace of the State, as well as making food available, the Managing Director of the Commission - Chief William Makinde, in the company of three of the four Executive Directors visited possible farm sites in the Isoko South Area of the State; the Executive Directors in company of the Managing Director were Bashorun Ogieh Askiah (ED, Finance & Admin.), Hon. Christopher Ochor Ochor (ED, Social Services) and Mr. Philip Gbasin (ED, Projects).

Also part of the Assessment visits team were the Head of Department – Community Development & Public Enlightenment – Flora Ubeku, as well as the Divisional Head – Community Development – Elaye Jude Azosibe.This is besides the TAs and SAs of the MD, EDs and other staff of the Commission from the Community Development and Public Enlightenment Department, Social Service Department, Press Unit and Protocol Unit.

A number of farms were visited with the view of assessing their present condition and possible level of work that can be done in them. The farms visited were located in Oleh and Aviara communities.

The MD highlighted that the Commission in line with the State Governor’s SMART agenda is looking at the setting up of farms as a means of creating job opportunities for the teeming youths of the State; creating wealth and reforming the agricultural sector. He hinted that the Commission is looking at rice cultivation, cassava cultivation, cultivation of some other selected crops and animal husbandry.

This drive is a continous one by the Commission and it will extend to other areas of the state and other economic areas for development of the state.
